I worked within Social Care and Mental Health charities for over 15 years that enabled me to develop my path to counselling and psychotherapy.
I am a registered and fully qualified Person-Centered Counsellor and am a member of COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland).
Years in Practice: 1 Year.
Most of my practice hours I done with a GP surgery, working with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I also volunteered with CLAN and CRUSE for a number of years.
What is Person-Centred Counselling.
Carl Rogers the founder of Person-Centred Counselling approach believed that we are all born with a strong ability to maintain, enhance, reproduce ourselves and to fulfil our potential. However, often we experience stressful events that distort or preclude our capabilities to develop into a fully functioning individual. A therapist offers to a client a trusting, confidential, non-judgmental environment where the client can explore his/her feelings, and experiences. Approaching own feelings and talking about own experiences in a therapeutic environment has a powerful healing effect and can help us to overcome our difficulties (Rogers, 1961).
